Session 3
The Party departs on their Quest

Setting Out:
We prepare to set out for the desert of Merseyr, in search of the Seer’s Oasis. The nation is currently ruled by a 2-part parliament and is ruled by Primie Minister Rischay Vrei, who has brought a era of peace and prosperity.

Tabarias takes us to a building which holds 6 metal gates (yes, think Stargate [because the DM is LAMEXD -<3 M) and leads us to one hued of burnished gold, with amethysts set into intricate scrollwork. A caster activates it, and Tabarius wishes us well on our journeys.

Large gates connect all the capital cities of Saegareth to each other. Smaller gates would connect to smaller headquarters/cities & locations (unsure)
These gates are used by the Council for political reasons to quickly arrive at the necessary locations. In times of war the gates are shut down to help protect borders. Keagan notices that the gates are Sintari in origin.

Chenreyr (Jovaani & Keagan)
The party appears in a small building in Chenreyr, in the Market District to be precise. Jovaani is very familiar with this district as it is under Arcana Eterna control (at least as he remembers). Veric is also very prominent in the city, and he never liked Jovaani too much to begin with (and the bit about the Jovaani’s slavery…). However, with the knowledge that his grandfather Knolan is in this city (in theory at least), Jovaani heads straight for the nearest (and main) Arcana Eterna base.

The Eterna base appears to now be an Alchemy shop. Keagan immediately becomes fascinated by the contents of the shop, while Jovaani converses with the shopkeeper to gain entrance to the secret base behind the shop. He turns and all but drags Keagan with him.

Upon reaching Knolan, it is apparent that Jovaani’s grandfather seems to be in a dreamlike state and keeps pointing to and referring to a door. He doesn’t respond to Jovaani’s speech, but Keagan offers to try and gain more insight with magic. Jovaani allows it but cautions against it, Keagan proceeds and suspects that the man’s soul itself is fractured.

As Knolan keeps pointing towards the door as he whispers the name of his grandson, Jovaani decides to go through it, and walks down a warm misty passage. After some time, Keagan follows. The passage begins to widen and smooth as Jovaani gets a strong sense of familiarity…suddenly realizing that he is back in the Underdark, in the very first arena he fought in. He steps into the arena to a cheer…but the stands are empty. As the shouts grow, a drow priestess of Lolth appears at the opposite end of the arena, specifically the priestess is a drow Hunter.

Keagan follows some distance behind, finding that the mist seems to be condensing, slowing his progress. When Keagan finally reaches the arena he sees Jovaani demonstrating exactly why he was able to survive in the arena in the first place. Keagan though impressed is quick to enter the fray to assist Jovaani. After fighting desperately against underdark spiders that appear without end, Keagan catches sight of some inconsistencies in the arena around them, and points out to Jovanni that they are in an illusion, revealing what appears to be a drow women of apparent power who seems to know Jovaani, as well as a supposed brother of whom he has no knowledge of.

They discover (though Jovaani already strongly suspected) that Lilura, the chaotic goddess of magic, had been shattered and weakened by a demon, and is currently trapped in scattered shards of herself, but ultimately still alive. This weakened state results in an affliction that corrupts all spellcasters who swear themselves to her, most notably Knolan, resulting in suffering ailment that seems to strike at their very magic and souls.

After a subsequent revelation that Jovaani’s tattoo holds more power than he previously expected, he dissolves the rest of the spell surrounding himself and Keagan… revealing that they were both in the closet (he had some trouble coming out).

After stabilizing Knolan for a mere moment, Jovaani and Keagan learn from Melchior that many of magical attacks since the events at the Coliseum bear the distinct signature of Sintari magic, and information suggests they are moving on the Seer’s Oasis to claim it’s magic.

Chenreyr (Rest of the Party)
In the Black Dagger Tavern, Auken, Charlemage, Brugh, Severnie & Sairaith discover the level of debauchery typical of one of Brener’s establishments (Jovaani had directed them as a smokescreen for himself). They almost forgot that they had arrived seeking information, so distracted as they were. Eventually they asked barkeep for information, they are told about a dragon that has been assaulting some of the outlying buildings of the city. The barkeep offers to give them more information if they can take of this hazard. It usually attacks at night, and no one knows exactly what kind it is, only that it burrows up from under the ground.

They also discover that Veric Brener is funding the assignment. The party as a whole is unaware of Desert King of Thieves’ reputation. Rich and powerful, Veric is willing to offer quite the sum for the dragon’s death. Severnie calls Veric a coward for not doing it himself, the barkeep cautions Severnie from that sort of talk.

The party departs in search of the dragon, planning to “summon” it with an offering of gold. After a reasonably short walk, they hear a low breathing sound and spot one sand dune which doesn’t appear to be affected by the wind. After a failed attempt to take the creature by surprise, they enrage it and trigger combat.

After a trying combat, they slay the dragon and cut open its belly to claim its treasure. A woman in a black wolf mask with blue trim appears, and after a brief exchange [Where the woman warns the party that they have challenged the wrong people and that her master will see them fall. her master being Lucretia, the blackguard from the Arena 5 years ago], 2 portals open and she disappears through one, while a small party appears through the other, including a monk who immediately attempts to grapple Brugh. Combat with the party ensues.

(A closing note, the log-keepers were very distracted at the end during the combat with this group that appeared out of the portals, so more detail from those party members may be needed)

Session 2 (Kegan)

The main party “awakens” in a dark misty forest, similar to those close to Keagan’s homeland in Cresting Glenn. We realize we are not on the Prime plane anymore, and suspect this is the Dream Realm.
Wandering through the forest, we find a draconic statue similar to those Old Era worshipers of Tiamat would have used. Laying at it’s feet are the bodies of Hawken Faluja (Blood-drinker), Charlamange. Keagan (and only he) witnesses the dragon lash out to attack him, a moment before a stone heart clutched in it’s claw begins beating, pumping out blood. We rush to rescue the two limp bodies, waking them up. The statue turns its head to watch the party, but Keagan disbelieves and it remains stationary.

Keagan hears sing-song voices echoing from all around, and rushes off into the forest, joining in the song. Jovaani restrains him. A moment later, a little girl, mouth agape in a silent scream runs up to the party. The party sees various flashes of disturbing and evil things from the girl and surrounding forest.

Above us, we see 2 glowing paths, one of white and one blue. The little girl is very scared of the blue path, and refuses to return that way. She also tells us she is from a small village in Aqualis, and was traveling with her mother who was competing in the tournament, but after the ‘evil lady’ appeared, she found herself in this forest.

After some debate (and the revelation of Jovaani’s slave status), the party elects to take the white path, to the apparent west.
After a certain distance, we happen across a woman in a white dress and long brown hair, who reacts to Auken with fear.

8 Orcs appear crashing through the forest, and attack us, along with the woman. The orcs are quickly defeated, and the woman is revealed to be a Succubus, who summons a swarm of 13 Dretches.
Keagan managed to Hypnotize the Seccubus, discovering that she was attacking us on orders.

Jovanni hears Knolan’s fevered voice as if he stood next to him. “She is with you… the shards… the shards of she who is Chaos and she who is the Order of Arcana… the shards, find her Maegira. My darling life, my mistress arcane Maegira.” Troubled, Jovaani tries to figure out the mysteries of Knolan’s message.

Maegira is the highest priestess at the temple of Kiesayah in Kaeheer. Jovaani & Keagan have met her, she is a tall, lithe, curly brown-haired humanoid and absolutely beautiful. It is assumed that she is human. There is no record of her, she simply appeared one day.

We are ambushed by small skeletal abyssal skulkers, who we defeat in short order, as the trees begin to bleed. We continue along to see a tall statue of demonic features. The little girl begin signing frantically, and the statue reaches out to strike. As it does, a spell around the little girl dissolves, revealing her to also be a succubus.

We go through a challenging combat against the demonic statue, which reverts to stone and crumbles into dust. In the blink of an eye, the Succubus was also slain, and a shimmering gateway opens.

Information Gathered from Session One

Those that would climb the canyons of Nessus are bound for a hard fall. The time of Shades and Shadows is at hand. The Goddess will Fall and the Queen shall rise

The party learns that Nessus is the ninth and deepest layer of the Infernal planes. It is a harsh environment of large canyons and vast crevasses. Whether or not the Sho’Shasari that said this was making a vague analogy or a declaration of alignment is unknown.

The Goddess…is a strange one to describe. The best even bardic knowledge could come up with are legends of a benevolent goddess of the celestial planes. They say she fought a war with a dark god and the the planes of the abyss and the infernal planes took sides in an ultimate battle that threw the planescapes completely out of alignment.

The Sho’shasari…once again this is something of legends. They were assassins, espionage agents, rogues and spies that all work subterfuge for the good of empires. Once when Saegareth was a series of kingdoms that Sho’Shasari would be hired by the kings and queens of the lands to subtly maintain order by keeping a flow of martial and political knowledge flowing.
But as far as anyone knows there is no actual history record of the Sho’Shasari ever existing.

Graz’zt…is another strange one. His marking is displayed on the quarterstaff carried by the Elven Wizard the party killed at the Vanilla star. It does seem rather strange for a weapon of Graz’zt to be on this plane, but Sairaith could detect no evil one it, only declaring it of masterwork craftsmanship. Jovaani searched deep into his knowledge, but only came up with stories of Graz’zt the Sensual, Sexual Demon Lord of the 586th Plane of the Abyss. Nothing concrete.

And then there was Lucretia Rafale:

Lucretia Rafale the beautiful woman who weaves such wicked plots. The woman who apparently bested Tabarias Luchepheros in combat. If the party were to ask Sairaith she would swear the woman literally oozed evil from every pore. She was unaffected by lights blinding her, though the party had no time to determine why. She sealed Jovaani’s mouth with a single command. She made strong men flee from her with her very presence. She commands a giant Tiger and seems to own a large Dwarf who defends her with a maul.
Strangest of all was the way she spoke. Of something called the Tempo and the Twins. Of Ruling Choas…

The Bard and the Wizard put their heads together in the few moments they had after she left. They determined that the Tempo could refer to the planar alignment. Though what alignment and what planes they didn’t know. Or whether or not the Tempo was mechanical.

The Twins they determined likely referred to the legend of how the Council of Twelve began. Thousands of years ago six sets of twins where chosen to oversee Saegareth. This was back after the Kingdoms had split and when there were more lands in Saegareth. The Twins helped craft order out of Chaos.

Session 1
A chance meeting, a random encounter, and a crawl through the Colloseum

We arrive in the southern, Gnomish district of the Island [Reskai], after Keagan approached the other adventurers on the ship, proposing that if the rumors of a group tournament are true, they could be well served by joining forces. They agree, and make their way into the city.

We travel to the Vanilla Star, a tavern recommended to us by the ship’s captain[Zanros Reley]. After a captivating performance by Keagan, Siverni was approached by an elven barmaid carrying concealed scrolls. After a brief altercation, 3 accomplices joined from the shadows to attack the party and a firedancer who was performing.

The party killed the elven maiden, and 2 of her accomplices, and the 3rd was put to sleep. Sairaith, the firedancer, woke up the accomplice, who spoke in Infernal a phrase praising Nessus and vowing that the Goddess would fall.

Knowledge checks recall that the name Nessus is connected to the name Asmodeus, an entity that is fabled to have taken part in a planar war thousands of years ago, involving The Goddess, who is also fabled to have been the leader of the Pantheon, the “big cheese” of the gods in long forgotten eons. He then bit a poison pill, and died before Sairaith could cure him.

[The tavern keeper, when he discovered that the party was sent to him under the name Zanros Reley, paled and not only offered them free rooms for the night, but rooms whenever they found themselves on Reskai]

The next morning, Keagan invites Sairaith to join the team for the tournament. She accepts, and accompanies the party to the Coliseum, which our knowledge checks have revealed to be layered with spells to make it “bigger on the inside”, and the ability to change form to suit the needs of the competition at hand.

There, we encountered Tabarias Lucepheros, representative to the Council of Twelve, of Meseyer, who greets Sairaith as an old friend. The party is introduced to Tabarias.

The tournament began with a dungeon forming around us, with a statue featuring a statue of chains and 2 locked doors, with 4 “button” diases around the chamber. 2 were faintly magical, and when activated, awakened the statue into a chain golem. We defeated it quickly but with difficulty, and during the combat we heard faint panicked sounds.

The killing of the golem opened one door, while the other remained locked and terrifying sounds of a vicious slaughter could be faintly heard on the other side. We elected to take the open route, sans screaming.

The next room was dark, so the spellcasters lit it and saw nothing. Magic items were detected, but not located. Jovaani and Sairaith entered the room and were attacked by small creatures and a shriek, beginning combat. Faintly we hear an amplified female voice barking orders. We defeat the encounter, and now clearly hear sounds of panic from the arena outside, when the magic of the arena should make that impossible.

We continue to a closed door behind which we overhear a huge creature pacing. We engage in a very brief combat with a large tiger before the arena dissolved, revealing ice devils attacking the arena. They were led by a woman later revealed to be named Lucretia Rafale. She displayed phenomenal magical power, and promised us that the Tempo was in chaos, and that not even the Twins could stop her from ruling the Pantheon. She vanishes with her accomplices, leaving a barely conscious Tabarius behind.

Tabarias is revealed by Detect Magic to be devil-touched, as though he were sickened by travel through the Infernal Planes, though Sairaith detects him to be Good.

The party then notices a great sphere in the center of the arena which we were magically drawn to. Upon touching it everything spun and then fell silent.
